Shelter

Habitat for Humanity

The Tallahassee Chapter of Habitat for Humanity got its start at First Presbyterian Church.  We work with other congregations to build a Habitat House every year.  The offerings at both Christmas Eve services go to support Habitat.

The Shelter of Tallahassee and Leon County, Inc.

began when First Presbyterian Church opened its doors to homeless neighbors on cold nights in the winter of 1987.  Now a free-standing organization, the Shelter still receives support from our congregation.

Cold Nights Shelter

In the winter of 2011-12 the Shelter on Tennessee Street will send the male guests it cannot accommodate to an overflow shelter housed at First Baptist Church.  Several congregations serve as hosts for this ministry.  Wednesday is First Presbyterian's night to serve.  The "trigger" for the overflow shelter is the official prediction of a "feels like" temperature of 35 degrees or lower for three hours.  Big Bend 211 has current information.  Dial "211" to find out if the overflow shelter is in operation.
