Preparation for Confirmation/Baptism—For anyone who has never been confirmed or baptized, beginning with ninth graders up through adults. Confirmation is the occasion whereby having reached an “age of discretion” an individual “proclaims” for oneself the promises of God’s grace received in baptism. Preparation for confirmation involves learning about one’s baptism and church, examining one’s Christian identity and loyalty, exploring what it means to participate in the gospel as a faith community, developing and presenting one’s statement of faith, and formalizing one’s active membership status in the church. For unbaptized people, the Preparation for Confirmation program can double as preparation for baptism. Confirmands are paired with adult Spiritual Mentors and together they work through the program of preparation for confirmation or baptism. The Preparation for Confirmation/ Baptism program begins in October, and concludes with Confirmation as part of the Great Vigil of Easter, Saturday night on the eve of Easter. (Contact: Korey)
